NOTES: A rare chance to experience how the pieces of an exhibit are put together to create the science, sound, history and cultural impact of the guitar from the man who gathered instruments ranging from the rare and antique to the wildly popular and innovative—along with hands-on interactives, models, touchscreens, performance video, audio, stunning images and photographs. Check out how this amalgam of 60+ guitars and 100+ historical artifacts is assembled to immerse visitors in the heart of music through the powerful lens of science. How do you set up a Guinness Record-breaking 43.5 foot-long guitar? Learn about electromagnetism and amplification, and the science of pitch and tone. Some of Harvey’s faves: one of the first six-string guitars, an Italian artifact from 1806, and the first electric guitar ever made in 1934, steel, shaped like a frying pan, played on your lap! The historically significant array demonstrates the evolution of the guitar, from a stunning guitar with inlays from the ivory of a ten thousand year old woolly mammoth, up to a 2012 3D inkjet printer N2 model, and oddities including a 1912 harp/guitar hybrid with 16 strings. Pieces with a SoCal heritage include an old Les Paul model and early Fenders—the genesis of the entire electric guitar movement was local, fostered by folk and country/western music.
Come see the exhibit installation or have Harvey in-studio! Please contact Susan Chicoine at 619-325-9416c schicoine@rhfleet.org to make arrangements today! Please join us for our VIP Media Event on Thursday December 19, 5:30-8:30PM—or anytime thereafter. Come ROCK With Us!
