Wear your best Hawaiian gear and paaahhrrrty like a true pirate with a tasty Deadhead 6 year cask aged Rum tiki bar mini-cocktail, then let them transform you into a rum expert at a tasting seminar,. Slake your thirst with craft beer samples from Mike Hess Brewing, Aztec Brewing Company with their Aztec Chipotle IPA and Aztec Amber brews, and Manzanita Brewing. Or pick your own pleasure and hit the no-host full bar from BarWorks, offering beer, wine and cocktails.
As always, food & drink will be awesome! Take your taste buds on a trip across the Pacific by sampling Sushi On a Roll specialties and Sensational Treats' Hawaiian shave ice; then return to local tastes including the signature Abbey wings from The South Park Abbey, yummy sliders from Crazee Burgers, and jerk chicken and pork rib tips from Coops West Texas BBQ.
Meet Chris Clark, founder of Shaper Studio, joined by Andrea Yoder Clark and Juliana Biersback of SurfAid to delve into the science of surfing, focusing on the evolution of surfing and boards as well as San Diego's role in the sport’s growth. Discover how the shape of a board affects your ride and the physics behind the evolution of So Cal's most iconic sport. Learn about Surfrider and the amazing campaigns they conduct to save the oceans. Touch the sea creatures that Living Coast Discovery Center is bringing and see how environmental changes affect them as well. And be ready to boogie to the band Songs for People and DJ Kenneth Day!
For those who know how to drink and learn, we have lots to play with! See how wave oscillation can be applied to both Slinkies and the next set of tubular waves under the pier. Let your creativity shine by making a solar bead bracelet, and have a blast with geometric bubbles. Take a swing at the science of baseball and see if your knowledge helps you score playing baseball on the Xbox. Check out the momentum and forward motion of everyone’s favorite amusement park thrill when you design your own rollercoaster. At evening’s end, get a discounted luxury ride home from Uber. We would also like to acknowledge generous donations from Bob Thompson of Fotowerks, Randy Jordan of R Jordan Photography and Ocean Magazine.
