San Diego—Have you ever wanted to move objects with your mind? Play games with a robot? Or trade in your commute for teleportation? Science Fiction, Science Future, the latest traveling exhibition at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, brings the science of the future into the present when it opens on Saturday, May 21, 2016, in the Fleet Science Center's main exhibit gallery.

Science Fiction, Science Future brings to life innovations and inventions that were previously only considered possible in science-fiction films and literature. The exhibition engages visitors with hands-on and full-body experiences incorporating robots, invisibility, mind control, holograms, augmented reality and more. Just like in science fiction, curiosity, innovation and imagination underpin many scientific principles. The exhibits in Science Fiction, Science Future enable visitors to develop a deeper understanding of how science fiction ideas and concepts might become the science reality of tomorrow.

The diversity of interactive exhibits of Science Fiction, Science Future include examples from every corner of the science-fiction universe. "Hey, That Robot's Copying Me" lets visitors interact with a robot to see it analyze and mimic their emotions. In "Mind Control," visitors compete against one another to see who can move a ball using only their brain waves. "Design a Cyborg" offers a range of organic and synthetic parts to create a customized cyborg of the future. "A Holographic Future" explores how we might one day communicate through holograms. "Wormholes Through Space" reveals what a wormhole is and how we could travel through one. "Our Quantum Future" is a classic demonstration of light and explores quantum physics and the possibilities of transporter technology in the future. "Future Past" takes a look at the visions people had of the future from the 1890s to the present day.

Science Fiction, Science Future was created by the renowned Scitech Discovery Centre in Perth, Australia. The exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to practice important science literacy skills, including thinking critically, exhibiting curiosity and assessing fiction versus fact. It also encourages visitors to be aware of the positive role science and science fiction play in society, and it provides the insight to be able to engage in social or political debates related to science.

"Science fiction has always been an incredible source of inspiration for scientists and innovators," said Steve Snyder, CEO of the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. "Our hope is that Science Fiction, Science Future inspires visitors to expand their appreciation the stories and ideas in science fiction, and the innovations and possibilities they have inspired in science reality."

With interactive, engaging exhibits that challenge the mind and body and a stunning visual environment, this exhibition sets the stage for a unique journey of science exploration, curiosity and discovery.

Science Fiction, Science Future is open daily beginning Saturday, May 21, through September 5, 2016, in the Fleet's main exhibit gallery. The exhibition is included with science center admission.

This exhibition was created by Scitech Discovery Centre, Perth, Australia, and produced by Imagine Exhibitions Inc.
