The Fleet Science Center presents Superpower Dogs

Opening in the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater on Friday, March 15.

March 01, 2019

San Diego, CA–The latest documentary from IMAX®, Cosmic Picture and Mars Petcare follows the inspiring adventures of heroic dogs. Narrated by Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger, Gifted), Superpower Dogs opens in the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater at the Fleet Science Center on March 15, 2019.

Superpower Dogs takes audiences on an exciting journey around the globe to meet remarkable dogs who save lives and discover the powerful bond they share with their human partners. This engaging film follows six canine superheroes and their human partners as they brave earthquakes and avalanches, protect endangered species and transform the lives of people with special needs. Audiences will discover the amazing abilities of different breeds and the astonishing science behind their superpowers. We’ll never look at our best friends the same way again!

Meet the stars of Superpower Dogs:

  • Halo, a rookie puppy training to join one of the most elite disaster response teams in America;
  • Henry, an avalanche rescue expert saving lives in the Canadian Rockies;
  • Reef, a Newfoundland lifeguard in the Italian Coast Guard;
  • Ricochet, a surf and therapy legend in San Diego, California, who comforts people with special needs;
  • Tipper and Tony, Bloodhound brothers leading the fight to save endangered species in Africa.

From the filmmakers behind the acclaimed documentaries Jerusalem and Journey to Mecca, Superpower Dogs takes audiences on an immersive IMAX adventure to experience the life-saving superpowers and extraordinary bravery of some of the world’s most amazing dogs.

“I am really happy to be part of,” said Chris Evans.  “I am a proud dog owner and completely understand the connection that humans have with these remarkable animals. I love the way this film highlights incredible working dogs who utilize their real-life superpowers to help and protect people.”

“We want Superpower Dogs to inspire the kinds of questions that are at the heart of scientific inquiry,” said writer and director Daniel Ferguson. “There is still so much about our best friends we don’t understand, and perhaps this film will spark curiosity and nudge young people to pursue careers in veterinary science, search and rescue or other fields involving dogs.”

Superpower Dogs opens at the Fleet Science Center on Friday, March 15, 2019, with multiple shows daily. The documentary is rated G.

About Ricochet

Superpower: Emotional Support

Location: San Diego

Breed: Golden Retriever

Age: 10 years old

Human partner: Judy

An internet sensation, Ricochet is a 10-year old Golden Retriever and one of America’s most beloved therapy dogs. In 2009, Ricochet made an independent decision to jump on a surfboard with a boy who is quadriplegic. Since then, she has surfed with hundreds of individuals, and became the only SURFice dog® on the planet who provides canine-assisted surfing to empower and improve the quality of life for individuals with physical, cognitive or emotional disabilities. Although surfing has been at the forefront of Ricochet’s work, it’s not the act of surfing that makes her interactions so life changing. It’s her mystifying ability to make immediate, deep, heart-to-heart, soul-to-soul connections with the individuals she interacts with, both in and out of the water. She intuitively and empathically alerts to their emotional and physical changes which allows for profound paws-on healing interventions.
