Professor Adam Burgasser

Prof. Adam Burgasser, an astrophysicist at UC San Diego, directs the Cool Star Lab. He studies the coldest stars, brown dwarfs, and exoplanets using telescopes like Keck, Hubble, and JWST. Adam discovered dozens of worlds, defined the "T" spectral class, and was part of the TRAPPIST-1 discovery team. He earned his PhD at Caltech, was a postdoc at UCLA and the American Museum of Natural History, and taught at MIT before returning to UC San Diego. Adam has been a Fulbright Scholar, Vice President of the American Astronomical Society, and has won awards in teaching and equity, diversity and inclusion.
