Pokémon Go and Augmented Reality
In a few years, virtual reality may be a commonplace escape into a land of fantasy and illusion. For now, as a sort of small first step, there is Pokémon Go, a game that's been reconfigured into a high-tech sport for all using augmented reality. Augmented reality is a live view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are “augmented” or supplemented by a sound, video, graphic or GPS data. The Pokemon Go app lets you take a sneak peak at what the future will bring us when it comes to truly immersive experiences.
If you're one of the millions of people using Pokemon Go already, you'll be delighted to hear that the Fleet is a PokeStop—and Balboa Park is filled with more stops and PokeGyms! Pokémon sightings so far in the Fleet include Meowth, Squirtle, Growlithe, Pidgey, Paras and lots more. Catch all the Pokémon you can, evolve ‘em, level up and complete your Pokédex!
We want to see what you’ve caught, so share them with us using #PokemonGO and #FleetScience.
