A Full Week of Science

Next week is packed with fun, after-hours science events from the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center!

It all starts on Monday, July 13, with our 21+ event, Suds & Science. Join us at O’Sullivan Brothers Brewing Company from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for an evening of drinking and learning! Dr. Arion Mayes from SDSU’s Department of Anthropology takes apart some of our favorite crime TV shows and shares how modern forensic anthropology helps law enforcement agencies to solve crime. The evening begins with a 15-minute presentation followed by a conversation between the scientist and the audience. This event is free to attend and walk-ins are welcome!

The next evening, on Tuesday, July 14, NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft is scheduled to arrive at Pluto after a nine-and-a-half year journey! This will give us our first close-up look at the dwarf planet and its moons. Come join us at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to celebrate this occasion at our all-ages Pluto Fly-By Party! The event will be hosted by NASA Solar System Ambassador Jerry Hilburn, and the Fleet’s resident astronomer, Dr. Lisa Will. We’ll have the live feed from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab in our Heikoff Giant Dome Theater, with commentary from Mr. Hilburn and Dr. Will. Get the scoop on new insights about Pluto as they happen! Due to limited seating, we recommend you purchase tickets in advance.

Finally, on Thursday, July 16, come join us for an exclusive adult night at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center with the Fleet Night of Science from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Night of Science is an after-hours, 21+ event where you can explore exhibits, sip cocktails and enjoy food with fellow science geeks. Check out our newest exhibition, CIRCUS: Science Under the Top, and try your skills on the tightrope or even fly through the air in our elastic acrobatics exhibit! Come watch a special screening of the IMAX film To the Limit, which explores how athletes and performers push their bodies to the limits. Space is limited. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Fleet ticket counter or online.
