Films in the Dome
The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is the home to the iconic Heikoff Giant Dome Theater! With a 76-foot wraparound movie screen and 16,000 watts of digital surround sound, the theater is a marvel of science itself. The theater functions both as Southern California’s only IMAX® Dome Theater and a planetarium (catch The Sky Tonight on the first Wednesday of each month). Our state-of-the-art, full-dome digital projection system and IMAX film projection system produce incredible images nearly eight stories high. Every day, visitors have an opportunity to explore the wild beauty of Alaska, dive deep into the ocean or discover a new, unseen world—all without leaving the comfort of their seat.
Here are some films showing in March that you don’t want to miss:
Alaska, Spirit of the Wild: During this Academy Award®-nominated documentary, witness the breathtaking beauty of the Alaskan wilderness, from the harsh winters to the rejuvenating spring, and the animals (including its human residents) that learn to adapt to the extremes of Alaskan weather.
Journey to the South Pacific: Embark on an adventure to the lush tropical islands of tropical West Papua, where life flourishes above and below the sea! Join Jawi, a young island boy, on a journey of discovery, encountering whale sharks, sea turtles, manta rays and other creatures of the sea, while he learns about conservation and the importance of living in balance with the planet we call home.
Mysteries of the Unseen World: Rediscover the world we live in. See things that are too fast, too slow, too small or too vast to detect. The film's innovative use of high-speed and time-lapse photography, electron microscopy and nanotechnology result in incredible images, from the powerful thread of a spider’s web to the slow-motion shatter and splatter of a dropped pitcher of milk. This film will have you seeing the world in a whole new way.
We hope to see you at one, or all, of these films!
