The Fleet Science Center keeps kids engaged during winter break with exciting Winter STEM Camps

Full-day, in-person camps are available for kids in grades 1–3 and virtual camps are available for kids in grades 2–4.

San Diego, CA—The Fleet Science Center offers exciting options, both virtual and in-person, to help keep kids active and engaged during winter break. Students in grades 1–3 can learn about science, technology, engineering and math while experimenting with chemistry, exploring illusions and extracting DNA with the Fleet's Winter STEM Camps.
 
The Fleet's Winter STEM Camps are offered every day from Monday, December 21, through Thursday, December 31 (except for December 24-25 and January 1). The in-person camps take place at the Fleet and feature a full day of fun and educational, hands-on activities for kids in grades 1 through 3. The virtual camps are filled with activities that can be done using materials found at home and have challenges aimed for students in grades 2 through 4.
 
Registration for Winter STEM Camps is now open. In-person camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Prices for the first week of in-person camps are $150 for members and $165 for nonmembers, and for the second week are $200 for members and $220 for nonmembers. Virtual camps are daily at 11 a.m. Attendees can sign up for a single day or enroll for multiple days of fun. Prices are $25 per day, $60 for the first week and $80 for the second week of virtual camps.

Full Camp Descriptions

In-Person Camps
Grades 1–3
  • Monday, December 21: Inside Your Insides. Investigate bones, blood, digestion and other amazing systems of the human body. 
  • Tuesday, December 22: Magic & Illusion. Make color-changing potions, observe the fascinating nature of dry ice and learn illusion tricks that will impress your friends! 
  • Wednesday, December 23: To the Extreme. Explore explosive earth events, crazy weather and other thrilling science activities!
  • Monday, December 28: Maker Mania. Join the Maker movement! Craft, tinker and create your own incredible devices. 
  • Tuesday, December 29: Build It! Learn what it takes to be an engineer by testing, tweaking and retesting as you build tall towers, bridges and other construction challenges. 
  • Wednesday, December 30: Chemistry Craze. Explore the basics of chemistry through loud, colorful and shocking activities.
  • Thursday, December 31: Physics Fun. Make roller coasters and parachutes and discover how inertia, gravity and momentum are a part of our everyday lives.
 
Virtual Camps
Grades 2–4
  • Monday, December 21: DNA Structures. Find our what you, and all living things, are made of! Create your own model and extract strands of DNA.
  • Tuesday, December 22: Earth Rocks. Get ready to rock! Examine rocks, minerals and learn how these rock stars form.
  • Wednesday, December 23: Plant Cycle. Be a backyard botanist as you dissect flowers and observe capillary movement in action
  • Monday, December 28: Sound Science. Explore how sound moves and design your own noisemaker.
  • Tuesday, December 29: Amazing Astronaut. Discover does it take to survive in space and create your own model lunar lander.
  • Wednesday, December 30: Kitchen Chemistry. Become a chemist by experimenting with acids and bases that can be found in your kitchen or pantry!
  • Thursday, December 31: Gravitation Station. Take adventures to new heights! Use parachutes to explore forces, motion and more.

The Fleet Science Center connects people of all ages to the possibilities and power of science to create a better future.
